One Parent's Reading Experiment: The Purple Challenge!

While it doesn't take reams of scientific research to figure this out (although we do have reams of scientific research to explain this), this clever parent shows us exactly how children are being taught to read in school, and how inefficient (at best) and ineffective (at worst) the "3-cueing system" is for word recognition (and thus, for learning how to read). By the end, she has clearly demonstrated the power of "orthographic mapping", and how a little bit of knowledge of the structure of words can go a long way. Brilliant!
